History of Peter Shannon & Co.

Due to our history and commitment to the quality of our work, we are one of the most highly regarded accounting organizations in the Chicagoland area. Since the founding in 1934, our client list has grown considerably to include many well-known private and public institutions. At one time in our history, we even serviced the City of Chicago! Peter Shannon & Co. is a firm with a history and reputation we are proud of, and we enjoy working with our fine clients on project after project.

Our Founder

Peter M. Shannon, the founder of our company, immigrated from Ireland in 1920. He received the CPA certification while working from his personal residence. He opened his first office in downtown Chicago and started a partnership under the name of “Peter Shannon & Co.” As his business grew, he built his own office building in southside Chicago to house the accounting business and Shannon School of Commerce, where he taught accounting, typing, and stenography to provide his employees an opportunity to advance their professional skills.

Succession of Our Firm

Upon his retirement, the company was succeeded by Bernard F. Hester and several other partners and the office was moved to Hinsdale, IL. A third generation of ownership began with John Dyer, Roger Zmrhal and Steven Grant. To house the future of Peter Shannon & Co, our current office was beautifully constructed in Countryside, IL right on Route 66. Continuing with John, current ownership was formed with Tara Skole, joined by Timothy Komenda and Elaine McDermott. All of them have spent most of their adult lives with Peter Shannon & Co. and continue carrying on its legacy.
